On 4 wheel drive vehicles, you can either use 2 sets of chains (for all 4 wheels) or if using one set of chains, typically they are placed on the rear wheels but chains can be used on the front for added steering and braking benefits. Be sure to consult your truck owners manual for any additional information on the use of tire chains. I have included some links on tire chains that should also be helpful.
