Best Auto-Slide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for a 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500 with OEM Prep
Question:
I have a new 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500 ordered. . It has with the Oem puck system. Due to arrive in a week or so. I also have a new Jayco 29.5 BHDS fifth wheel ordered, due to arrive 01/21. This Trl comes with a turning point hitch. I am not fond of moving that pivot point so far back, as I am afraid it will affect handling in wind, etc. I was going to use a pull rite supergluide, and lock out the turning point hitch box, using its wedge as the capture plate. Is this plan good? Do I still need a sliding hitch with the new longer 6’9” box? Is there a better way to go? I like the auto slide hitches, and was considering the new pullrite 4500, if it ever comes available... but I am a bit put off by the projected $2,500.00 cost. Do you have any suggestions or recommendations?

The best fifth wheel hitch option we can offer for a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 with an auto-sliding feature is the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # DM8550035 with Demco 5th Wheel Rail Adapter part # DM6333. This will be a better option than the PullRite SuperGlide because the Hijacker unlike the SuperGlide allows the hitch head height to be adjusted so you can get the trailer level which we find is almost always needed with these newer trucks since they sit so much higher than years below.
In regards to use with a rotating pin box (Lippert Turning Point), the pin box will need to be locked out for this to work as mentioned. There would be no wedge needed if the pin box was locked out.
In regards to whether or not a slider hitch is needed, this will vary by application but as a general statement, yes, it is still needed for the slightly longer short bed.
