Can Class II Bike Rack Fit Class I Trailer Hitch

Question:

Hi, I am new to hitches so please bear with me... I bought a e-bike rack the Swagman Current which states it is only for Class 2 hitches, the hitch recommended for my 2015 Mazda 6 is only Class 1. My question would be is there any way these 2 are compatible? Will it even fit? My bike weighs 60 lbs and another one would weigh around 50Lbs, Thanks

Although Class I and Class II hitches are both the same size of 1-1/4 inch a Class II accessory cannot fit into the lower weight capacity Class I hitches due to a weld stop in the hitch tube designed to prevent this. This design is to prevent the lower capacity hitch from getting overloaded and damaged.

So for your heavier bikes you'd need a Class I compatible E-Bike rack like the Thule EasyFold XT part # TH903202 since it has the weight capacity needed and also fits Class I hitches. This rack is really great for heavier bikes too as it has a ramp built into the rack as well.

I attached a review video for this for you to check out as well.
