Dealing with Limited Ground Clearance Towing Airstream Trailer with 2020 Ford F-250

Question:

I bought an 11” Curt hitch for my 2020 F250 to tow my 30’ Airstream. Once I leveled the rig and my TV squatted down under the tongue weight I have just 6” of ground clearance even after installing the spring bars for my Equalizer hitch. Is this going to be enough? Thank you!

You're likely going to experience some bottoming out, which is part because of the squat on the truck, but also because of how low that Airstream trailer sits. It may not be too severe, but I can potentially see the occasional issue popping up.

To combat the squat of the truck I recommend using the Super Springs SumoSprings Custom Solo Helpers # SSR-127-54, which are easy to install and will help take some of the strain off of the suspension system on the truck.

The other thing you could do is get a lift kit for the trailer, that will help get you some additional clearance. This would be the only other option considering that your trailer is already level when towing, so we'd need to figure out a way to get that height up a little bit. In most cases I've seen, Airstream trailers have Torflex axles, but you'll want to check the center of the axle for a sticker with the specs of the axle to find out exactly what you've got. If you can let me know what type of axle that you've got, I can check to see if there is a lift kit available for your trailer that you can use to get a little bit of extra ground clearance.
