What Transmission Cooler do you Recommend on my 2006 Silverado 2500 Duramax/Allison

Question:

I am looking for a new cooler to install in place of my original. The originaql unit is 23inch wide and about 4inch tall. The inlet and outlet connection points are at the top on each end of the cooler about 21.5inch apart on center. The tubing that carries the fluid to/from the cooler is semi-rigid aluminum so it needs to match up to the new cooler. I have already purchased one cooler that I now realize I cannot use because it does not match up to the tubing. Is there a cooler out there that will fit my trucks installation requirements and help cool my trans fluid while pulling my 14,000 lb 5th wheel camper in summer heat ? Thanks for your help.

I have a good solution for you but I do not have an exact replacement. In this case it will be an upgrade to your current system rather than a direct replacement that is likely to deliver similar results to what you have now.

I recommend adding the Derale Dyno-Cool Tube-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit part # D12904 with the Derale Snap-In Radiator Adapter Fitting for GM part # D13035. Here you will use both your current cooler and add a great deal more cooling power to the system to keep you cool while you're hauling that fifth wheel. The Snap In Fittings will attach exactly like your current ones do and you will have zero issues with leaks.

I have included video on the fitting and the cooler being installed on a 2006 GMC Savannah just to use as a guide since there are some similarities and most of the installation is universal. You can also use the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler part # D15902 that you looked at although you get a little more bang for the buck with part # D12904.
