How To Install a Timbren Axle-Less 5,200-lbs System on Aluminum Framed Travel Trailer

Question:

I am interested in installing a Timbren Axle Less suspension in a 2013 Livin Lite - Camper Lite single axle 13BHB camper trailer. The Livin Lites are made on an aluminum frame and are manufactured with a Dexter 3500 axle. I would like to lift the trailer to open up the backcountry travel and am interested in installing a Timbren Axle Less 5,200 4inch lift. Do you see any concerns with switching to a Timbren Axle Less on an AL frame assuming I use the 2x3 steel crossmember? Thanks for your help,

You can absolutely use the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System - 4" Lift Spindle w/ Brake Flange - 5,200 lbs # TASR5200S03 on your 2013 Livin Lite Camper with an aluminum frame, but you'll need to put some sort of buffer between the Timbren system and the frameto prevent galvanic corrosion. Your best bet is going to be putting a thin rubber pad between the steel mount and the aluminum I-beam. The powder coat on the steel should keep the two dissimilar metals from galvanic corrosion, but the thin rubber pad would drastically decrease the chances of the two metals corroding to each other.

You'll also likely want to use zinc plated hardware, which will work well with both metals and provide you with a secure connection to your trailer; you can source this locally.

If you also need idler hubs for this setup, the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 5,200-lb E-Z Lube Axles - 6 on 5-1/2 # 8-213-5UC1-EZ are a confirmed fit on the Timbren spindles. If you've got brakes on your trailer, # 8-201-5UC3-EZ is a hub and drum assembly that will fit. For brakes I recommend using the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 12" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 5.2K to 7K # AKEBRK-7-SA with those since they're self adjusting, which cuts down on maintenance after installation. Since the brakes don't come with mounting hardware, you may also need that, which can be found with part # BRKH12.

I've linked some review videos of these parts for you to check out, as well.
