Question:
I just read an answer in the QandA that even if the hitch system tongue weight allows higher limit Curt xxt 13266 - 350 lbs, it’s the car specifications which should drive the final limit E.g. Volvo XC70 limits to 165 lbs. Did I understand correctly?

When trying to figure out the maximum tongue weight, or maximum trailer weight for a vehicle such as your 2009 Volvo XC70 you are limited by which ever rating is lower between the vehicle and trailer hitch receiver.
In this case the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13266 has a maximum tongue weight rating of 350lbs, but the vehicle has a maximum tongue weight rating of 165lbs, so you are limited to a maximum tongue weight of 165lbs.
If the trailer hitch receiver were to have a maximum tongue weight rating of 165lbs but the vehicle tongue weight rating was 350lbs, you would still be limited to a maximum tongue weight of 165lbs.
