Troubleshooting a 4 to 7-Way Adapter Not Functioning on a 2001 Chevy 2500 Silverado

Question:

I have a 2001 hevy 2500 HD and recently my old adapter quit working due to the plugs breaking off. I borrowed one from my buddy and it only has four flat prongs in the round plug where it connects to the truck. When connected the left turn signal is the only thing that works, and the brake lights on the trailer and the truck stay on. I assume I need a different plug with all 7 flats in the plug for it to function as designed ? Thanks in advance

The reason only 4 wires run to your buddies adapter is because there is only 4 circuits from the 4-way so only 4 wires are run to the 7-way portion of the adapter. The remaining circuits are not being used so there is no wire run to them.

You could most likely get your buddies adapter to work, but it sounds like it could be wired up wrong. You might try using a circuit tester like our part # PTW2993 to wire by function.

The Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole # 30717 also would work if you just wanted to plug in the 4-way on your vehicle into the 4-way on the adapter you should have a functioning 4 to 7-way adapter.

I attached a helpful link also that has replacement connectors for your 2001 Chevy Silverado if needed.
