Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Wiring Harness for 2018 Ford Explorer XLT
Question:
I am looking to install a Draw-Tite 76034 hitch with either a curt 56172 or Tekonsha 118540 wiring harness. Leaning toward the 118540 but have heard a few problems exist with adding a harness when you have backup sensors on your Explorer. Like they become disabled or throw a computer diagnostic code. Is this true with adding a non factory harness or was this part of bad installation practices? I want to make sure that I am getting the right harness that will allow for the sensors to still work properly. Thank you

For your 2018 Ford Explorer the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 76034 is a great hitch receiver for you. It is an easy installation with no drilling required.
For your wiring harness, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118540 which installs on the passenger side to factory wiring. I also recommend using the Mounting Bracket 4-Pole Flat # 18144. This harness won't have any issue with the backup sensors or error codes when installed correctly. I recommend putting some dielectric grease # 11755 on your connections to keep moisture and debris out and prevent corrosion that could lead to issues down the road.
