Tow Bar Wiring to Flat Tow a 1996 Geo Tracker Behind a Motor Home
Question:
Will # 38955 work on a 1996 Geo tracker.? If so, am I better running it under the floor mat, or should I go under the vehicle? I have a lift, so either way would be easy. Thanks

You can use a diode kit like # 38955 on your 1996 Geo Tracker but there are several things to consider. First, it looks like your Tracker has turn signals that are separate from the brake and running lights. If this is so then by using a 4 diode kit, all the functions will use the brake/running light bulb and the vehicle turn signals will not be used at all.
If the towing vehicle (RV) has separate bulbs as well and no trailer connector, you would either need to use a tail light converter, # RM-732 and the 4 diode kit, or you will need to add two additional diodes # RM-792 and no converter to keep all the functions separate.
If you use a 4-diode kit and are also using a supplemental braking system (required by law in most states) you will also need to use a brake light relay # RM-88400.
There can be several ways to wire in diodes so if you can tell me if the towing vehicle has a trailer connector or not, and if not if it has turn signals that are separate from the brake and running lights I can make a more specific recommendation and tell you how to wire it. I have included some links to tow bar wiring for you.
You can route the wires the best way that works for you. Going through the vehicle will keep the wires protected and out of sight more so than if they were ran under the vehicle. Running them under the vehicle requires less time and effort.
