Will Derale Transmission Cooler # D13504 Fit 2003 Chevy Silverado w/Factory Tow Package and Cooler

Question:

I am interested in adding the Derale Cooler number 13504 to my 2003 Chev Silverado with OEM tow package. The OEM cooler is mounted in front of the condenser and the radiator. Im wondering if this cooler would fit in between the condenser and the tow package cooler? Also, which adaptor fitting would I need to go in to the OEM cooler? Im wondering if the D13035 snap in radiator adapter is the correct one? Also, I live in Northern Wisconsin and have a concern if I will cool the transmission too much in the winter time? I am also wondering the correct way to install this - which line goes where? Thank you for your response in advance. I appreciate your input in to this. P.S. I understand that the 13504 is 11inch wide, 12inch tall and 7/8inch deep. It appears that it will go into my space but without taking the truck apart more I cannot get in to get a more accurate measurement.

The Derale cooler # D13504 is 7/8 inches deep like you said. We have not installed one in the space you want to install it so I cannot say from experience if it is a fit or not. You will need to measure.

If the space between the factory cooler and the condenser on your truck then you can mount it there. You just have to measure to determine fit. The overall dimensions of the cooler are 11 inches wide and 12 inches tall. With this information you should be able to measure the available space in the truck to find the best location. I have included a link to a video that shows a typical installation of this cooler for you.

In cold weather, it is recommended to allow the vehicle extra time to warm up. Tran mission fluid cannot be overcooled but it will need to warm up some in a cold northern winter before you start driving. You could also install a bypass, # D25792, that will not allow fluid to come through until it reaches 180 degrees.

For the transmission lines, on your truck it should have a 4L60(E) or 4L65 transmission which would make the top hose the return line. If you have a 4T80E transmission then it would be the lower front line. I have linked some FAQ articles for you that should also help.
