Installation of Curt Trailer Hitch 11820 on a 2004 Mercedes E320 Wagon
Question:
I installed the Curt 11820 hitch on my E320 wagon several years ago per the instructions and it has worked fine. However the two bumper beam bolts have become loose such that the hitch has moved forward enough to rattle against the exhaust pipe. The bolts are rusted as well such that I cannot re-tighten them without removing the rear bumper panels in order to get better wrench access. Do you have any instructions on how to remove the bumper panels from this car? Your help would be most appreciated.

I have included a link to the installation instructions for Curt trailer hitch # 11820 that explains how you would go about loosening things up to get the hitch installed so that should help. we have not had the opportunity to install this hitch on a vehicle like yours so I do not have any additional tips for the process. Given that the hardware is intended for one-time installation I do recommend replacing it using # RHK. Enter the hitch number and manufacturer where indicated on the RHK page to get the right kit.
You will also need some blue Loctite # LT37643 according to the instructions. After you get it all tight again and in the correct position, if there is still a rattle, I have included a link to an FAQ article with tips on reducing rattle noise.
