Can the Curt Hitch Extender for 2 Hitch Receivers Handle Up to 350 lbs

Question:

Recently I purchased the Tilt and Go carrier from you. The hitch on my vehicle is under the bumper and the distance from the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper is 7 1/2 inches. Is the 8 inch 2 X 2 hitch extender my best option for being able to use the Tilt and Go? Given what I have read, the hitch extender can hold up to 350 lbs, and the tilt and go will hold 300 lbs, but being further out there is a lever effect on hitch, so will I only be able to carry 150lbs, or can I push it up to 200lbs?

Expert Reply:

The Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Hitch Receivers part # C45791 reduces the trailer hitch capacity by 50% or 350 lbs, whichever is lower. For example, if the trailer hitch had a 500 lb tongue weight rating the new weight capacity while using the extender would be 250 lbs. Therefore, the weight of the cargo carrier and all contents would need to be below the above formula.

This will be the case for all hitch extenders but it will work with the Viking Solutions Tilt-N-Go II Hauler and Cargo Carrier part # 310-VTG002.
