Is Curt 5th Wheel Hitch Upgrade from 15 Year Old Hitch Required?

Question:

I have a RBW Little Rocker 15K fifth wheel hitch. I have had this hitch for 15 years and 3 different 5th wheel campers and somewhere around 50,000 towing miles. Is there a shelf life on hitches ? In your opinion is it time to replace this hitch ? There is some wear but it still seems to be pretty solid.

There really isn't a shelf life on hitches. There have most definitely been some advances in technology for a smoother ride in the last 15 years, so you may want to consider an upgrade for that reason but there isn't a requirement if your hitch is still operating well.

There probably aren't many changes between your current hitch and the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Slide Bar Jaw - 16,000 lbs # C16115, as this is the most base level option. If you are wanting to upgrade I recommend considering the Curt A16 # C16120 for long bed trucks or the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Slider # C16521 for 6-3/4 inch beds. This sliding base allows for greater turning clearance in tight spaces like around gas pumps and at the camp site. These options use the same hitch head that has an interlocking dual jaw design for a better fit and reducing jarring and chucking. It also suppresses road shock and reduces noise.
