Weight Distribution Recommendation for Toyota Highlander Towing Airstream Sport
Question:
I have a Airstream Sport 16 foot pulled with a late model Toyota Highlander. The AS advertised tongue weight is 350# with battery and LP. Adding water between tongue and axle 50# and SUV loading 150# gives a tongue weight of around 550#. I think a 600# WD hitch would be appropriate. I have been looking at several and think a trunnion bar no chains is preferable. Curt and Equalizer make such hitches, but for the Curt, I find they do not provide a tongue weight chart for model ion. What can you recommend? Thanks

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.
The trunnion style of weight distribution system is a really great choice. You gain some friction sway control with this setup with just how the bars attach to the hangers. With this type of system the best value is the Strait Line # RP66083.
