Solutions for Carrying Spare Tire on 2009 Toyota RAV4 Sport

Question:

On your website, I found item # 3375201010 recommended for mounting a spare tire on a 2009 Toyota RAV4 Sport. Where does this bracket fit on this vehicle? Do you have any pictures of it installed on a RAV4 Sport? Is # 3375201010 the only option you have available to mount a spare tire onto a 2009 RAV4 Sport? Thanks in advance.

From what I understand, the 2009 RAV4 Sport was originally equipped with run-flat tires which explains why they typically didn't come with a spare tire or a good place to store one.

The Buyer's Products # 3375201010 spare tire carrier is a universal fit item, so Buyer's Products doesn't offer specific mounting instructions or guidance. It would be up to the end user to determine the best placement and do the measuring to determine if the tire and mount would fit in the desired location.

The most convenient place to carry a spare would be under the vehicle at the rear, but the RAV4 has what looks like a pretty deep under-floor storage area in the cargo area, so it wouldn't appear that under the vehicle would be a viable location to store the spare.

Unfortunately, it looks like the cargo area of the vehicle would be the easiest place to carry a spare tire. Barring that, going with a roof rack, a cargo basket and a spare tire mount for the basket would be a secondary option.

If you decide to look into the second option, you'd begin with a roof rack. If your RAV4 already has the roof rails in place, you can inexpensively add a roof rack using the Malone AirFlow 2, part # MPG215. Don't let their low price fool you, this crossbar set up is very highly rated by our customers.

If you don't have the side rails, an Inno Square bar roof rack would be the most reasonably priced option. The rack would consist of # INB137 50 inch crossbars, # INSUT roof rack feet and the # INK855 vehicle specific fit kit.

For a cargo basket, I'd recommend the Yakima # Y07070 LoadWarrior and the # Y07076 spare tire carrier.

I've linked to demonstration videos for the roof basket, and other products mentioned above.
