Tow Bar and Flat Tow Parts Needed for Heavy 2020 Ram 3500

Question:

I am looking to pull my 2020 Ram 3500 single wheel behind my motor home. I was looking at the Blue Ox Trion Tow Bar - Lunette Ring - A-Frame - # BX7520P I was not sure if this would spread far enough apart for my truck. The GVWR of the truck is 12500 lbs so if there is something else that will work. My motor home has a 15k lbs towing capacity but only has a 2inch receiver. I was looking at maybe replacing it but not sure if I can. It has a hitch receiver that bolts on but cant seem to find something for that. My motor home is a 2019 Forest River Berkshire XLT 45 A. I guess really what I need is a solution to tow my truck behind my motor home. Any suggestions?

We can definitely get you a flat tow set up for your 2020 Ram 3500. These trucks are heavy, but the GVWR you are referring to is the gross weight, which is the max weight it can be when loaded with passengers and cargo. According to my research, a 2020 Ram 3500 has a curb weight (unloaded) of up to just over 7,500 lbs max.

So even if you have some cargo in the truck, it is difficult to imagine you will be exceeding the 10,500 lb tow bar option you can use with a 2 inch hitch on your motorhome, the extrailer XHD tow bar. I recommend taking your truck to a weigh station to be certain, but I am confident you will be under that weight. With that in mind, here are the parts you will need to flat tow your 2020 Ram 3500.

- Base Plate Kit: Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-522204-5
- Tow Bar: etrailer XHD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate - 10.5K # e84ZR
- Wiring Kit: Demco 4-Diode Universal Towed Vehicle Wiring Kit with 7-Wire to 6-Wire Coiled Connector # DM9523010-54
- Supplemental Braking System: Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251

The Roadmaster base plates keep your Ram's clean look, as you can see in the accompanying photo, because they have removable tabs. The etrailer XHD tow bar is the best option because it has a 10,500 lb capacity, long arms which make it easier to maneuver when towing, and integrated safety cables.

I really like the Demco wiring kit because it is designed to prevent any type of electrical feedback, keeping your Ram's electrical system safe. And the Stay-IN-Play DUO braking system is great because it is a one-time install which will never require any type of removal or reactivation, and because it's proportional braking results in much smoother braking than most systems.

I have added links to some instruction manuals and video reviews for you as well.
