This connector isn't something we commonly see in the US and is a separate wiring system. This plug looks to be the trailer side connector due to the plug being a male side and vehicles are normally female connectors. If you're trying to figure out which wire is which function you'll need to test them. If this is the vehicle side you need a circuit tester. Run through your stop, turn, brake and running lights to test each function. If this is the trailer plug we go about testing it a little differently. To test the trailer you need a 12 volt battery.
Hook the earth/ground wire and touch it to the negative on the battery and manually test each wire to see the functions by connecting each wire to the positive battery terminal one at a time.
Separate wiring has a wire for turn signals and brake lights and a combined wiring set up uses one wire for both functions on each side of the trailer. The connector you have is for a trailer with separate wiring so if the trailer is a combined system, it isn't as easy as the shop told you. Is this the original connector on the trailer? If not what does the original look like? This could tell us if you have a combined or separate system if you don't already know. I f the trailer is a combined system, then you also need to add a converter like part # 118158 to combine the signals coming from the vehicle before they go to the trailer's lights.
