How to Determine if the Curt Hitch for 1997 Subaru Outback Will have enough Clearance for Bike Rack

Question:

Interested in purchasing a C12270 Curt Class II Receiver Hitch 1-1/4inch opening for my 1997 Subaru Outback Wagon. I am looking at using a Yakima hitch bike carrier. Can you tell me what the distance is from the center pin hole to the front edge of the bumper is? Thanks for your assistance

I do have a way that you can determine the clearance with Curt trailer hitch # C12270 installed. Take a look at the instructions I have linked for you. Find the mounting point on the vehicle for the forward most attachment point (towards the front of the vehicle).

Measure from this mounting hole straight back towards the rear of the vehicle 18-1/4 inches. This is where the face of the receiver will be. If you measure from that point to the distance required to clear the rear bumper, you will know the clearance measurement.

I wish I could give you the exact measurement you are looking for, but since we have not installed this hitch on a 1997 Subaru Outback Wagon yet I do not have a figure I could give you.
