Parts Needed To Install Brake Controller on a 2002 Land Rover Discovery II for a 2013 Lance Trailer
Question:
Im getting prepared to tow my new 2013 Lance 1685 Travel Trailer 21foot with my 2002 Land Rover Discovery II - The trailer has 2 brakes per axle. Which extra accessories will I need to begin towing? Will I need a 30-Amp circuit breaker 38630 for 6- to 8-brake applications or just a the 20-Amp circuit breaker 9506P for 2- to 4-brake applications? Which bracket will I need to mount my brake controller Would a Prodigy 3 be more suitable for my needs?

You will need to hardwire in a brake controller on your 2002 Land Rover Discovery II. First you will need to install a 4-Way trailer wiring harness unless the vehicle already has one, # 119178KIT.
Next you will need a 4 and 7 way installation kit # ETBC7. This kit provides the 7-way, wiring, and accessories needed to install a brake controller on the vehicle. I have included some links that explain the ETBC7 installation. A 20 amp circuit breaker, included, would be used if you have 2 to 4 assemblies (1 to 2 axles). The 30 amp circuit breaker, also included, would be used for 6 to 8 brake assemblies (3 to 4 axles).
If you already have a 7-Way installed then you will just need to hardwire in the brake controller after mounting it. You can still follow the relevant parts of the FAQ I have linked for the ETBC7. Instead of using the ETBC7 though you would use installation kit # 5506 (with 30 amp circuit breaker).
Brake controllers come with mounting brackets including the P2 you referenced, # 90885, and the P3 # 90195. Either one of these controllers would work well for you. They both can be mounted in a full 360 degree position in the direction of travel. Take a look at the installation details for the complete proper mounting position.
The main difference between these controllers is the features. The P3 has more options and pre-sets that can be programmed if you will be towing different trailers. It also has a very comprehensive diagnostic system that will tell not only tell you there is an error but tell you what the error is.
The P2 will provide error codes that you will then need to look up using the manual. The P2 also does not have pre-sets. It is one of our most popular controllers because it is easy to set up and easy to use. I have included a link to our FAQ article on brake controllers for you also.
