Will Performance Tires On Front of a 2012 BMW 535i have Adequate Traction with Chains on the Rear
Question:
First I would like to thank you for your quick answer about my previous question!!! You guys are awesome. Here is my question: I have a BMW 535i RWD with performance tires. I will place the chains on the back tires as recommended by manufacturer. Am I going to be fine with the front tires not having anything on them giving that they are performance tires. Will the car steer correctly?

Because tire chains have a speed limit while in use (typically 30 to 40 miles per hour, vehicle owners manual may also have a speed requirement) traction with the front tires is not an issue to be concerned about. At low speeds, even in icy or snowy conditions, your tires will not be an issue even though they are not all weather tires.
If you are concerned about the traction of the front wheels then going with a set of snow tires on the fronts would be the way to go. I have linked our tire chain FAQ article for you.
Braking will also be fine provided you follow the same rules that you would without the chains on the rear. Brake easy and allow plenty of room to slow down and stop. Continuous pressure to the brake pedal could result in a skid so light feathering of the pedal is more ideal.
