What Wires Need to be Connected on ETBC7L on 2020 Subaru Outback for Curt Echo Brake Controller

Question:

If I have a Curt 59236 4-way installed in on my 2020 Subaru Outback, how can I install a 7-pole wireless brake controller? I was thinking of getting the 7-way upgrade kit ETBC7L and the Curt Echo Wireless Brake controller. If so, when install the 4 to 7 way upgrade what cables need to be connected? Also, can I hook up the black power wire to the black wire on my C59236, since this already runs to the battery? thanks

A wireless brake controller is a great idea for your 2020 Subaru Outback because of how easy it is to use, so I definitely recommend going with the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # C51180.

Since you already hardwired in the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat # C59236, you are on the money with the other part you need, the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit # ETBC7L.

The Echo only requires the 12 volt, ground, and turn signals be connected to the 7-way to use. The turn signals are handled by the 4-way which will plug into the 7-way, so you only need to ground the white wire to your frame and connect the 12 volt power wire.

That wire does need to be run directly to the positive post of your Outback's battery via the included 40 amp circuit breaker. Overall, this is a simpler install than a traditional brake controller which requires additional wiring.
