Is there a Downside to Using Over-Capacity Weight Distribution System on 7000 lb Trailer?
Question:
My Lance model 1995 GW is 7000 and the tongue weight is 10 which is 700 #, plus I estimate 200# max loaded in the truck behind the wheels. Are there downsides of going to a higher capacity hitch such as the 1000 or 1200# TW hitch? The tow vehicle is a 2020 F-150 King Ranch with built in sway control. Thanks for the help.

The Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion - 10K GTW, 1K TW # RP66559 is rated for a total tongue range between 500 and 1,000 lbs. That total tongue weight is the loaded tongue weight of the trailer plus any cargo behind the rear axle.
Based on the information you gave, I recommend going with # RP66560 which is rated for total tongue weights between 600 and 1200 lbs. This ensures you will be within the range without going over. Ideally you want to be in the middle of the range. You will also need the hitch ball # 19286 for 2-5/16 inch diameter or # A-90 for 2 inch diameter.
You do not want to have a system rated too high because it can cause bounce and a stiff ride. You will want to be within the range of the system rating and then you'll be good to go.
