Is Dexter Axle Trailer Hub & Drum Assembly # 8-173-16UC3 Recommended for 1993 Starcraft

Question:

My 1993 Starcraft has a Dexter Axle with 7inch X 1-1/4inch brake shoes and 7inch brake drums. It appeares your Part numbers 23-48 and 23-47 are the brake assembly replacments. My existing drums have wheel bolts. Is your P/N 8-173-16UC3 a replacment for my drums and are they to be used with the above mentioned brake assemblies?

The Dexter Axle Trailer Hub & Drum Assembly # 8-173-16UC3 is a compatible fit for the Dexter axle on your 1993 Starcraft so long as the weight falls at or below the product weight capacity of 2000 lbs and is compatible with your existing bearings. This assembly works only with 1-1/4 inch brake shoes, not 1-3/4 inch shoes and has a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern. I have included a link to a video review of this item.

The other two items you referenced, the Dexter Axle 7 Inch Brake Assembly (RH) # 23-48 and 7 Inch Brake Brake Assembly (LH) # 23-47 are the intended assemblies for item # 8-173-16UC3 which include the bearings, races, and seal. They also have a weight capacity of 2000 lbs (as a pair) and mounts on a 4-bolt hub.

You will need to pull your existing hubs to obtain the reference numbers from them as to ensure your existing hubs have the same bearings. I recommend the TruRyde Replacement Trailer Hub Bearing # L44649 along with the TruRyde Grease Seal # 10-9. I have included a link to a video review of this seal as well as a video providing instructional tips on the removal, inspection, and re-installation of trailer bearings.

If you are unable to read or find the bearing numbers, you will need to use a dial or digital caliper to get dimensions from the spindle. I have provided a photo that should help you determine where the measurements need to be made.
