Do You Recommend Using a High-Low Adapter with 2018 Subaru Forester and Bike Rack?
Question:
Hi, Im considering purchasing the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 rack for a 2inch hitch. Ive got a 2018 Subaru Forester Touring edition with a Curt 2inch hitch 525lb installed. Ive read other measurements youve provided about this rack. Because the hitch is 1-2inch below the bumper, it seems like part of the rack and bike tire might be in the direct path with the exhaust and Im concerned about melting the plastic parts or damaging my bikes. Do you recommend the Kuat Hi-Lo or an alternative Hi-Lo/type extension to remove the rack from the path of the exhaust vs. an exhaust turndown vs. choosing a different rack entirely? I like the rack as it would work well for two bikes and its light weight is important for us. Thank you!

I don't recommend using a high-low adapter with this hitch and bike rack for a few reasons. First, it will reduce the tongue weight rating of the hitch receiver by 50%. Second, it will not allow the stability of a rack without the adapter which adds another moving component. Third, the additional height will likely cause an issue with having the tailgate clearance you will want.
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # CU64FR on your 2018 Subaru Forester Touring is a great hitch receiver. When using a Kuat Sherpa 2.0 2-Bike Platform Rack # SH22G, the shank will put the closest part of the wheel about 10 inches back from the exhaust but the shank rise will put the carrier above the exhaust as well.
