How Do I Determine the Front and Rear of a Full 3,500 lb. Axle Assembly
Question:
when looking at an assembled axle with electric brakes, how do determine which end of the axle is placed on driver side in USA? Do I have to pull the brake drums off the axle to find the long shoe and put it to the aft of the trailer? is there a reliable clue on the out side of the assembled brake?

There are two good ways to determine this. The first is to look on the brake assembly for a sticker or stamp that indicates Left hand, LH or Left same can be found on the right. This is like what we see on the Electric Trailer Brake Assembly part # AKEBRK-35L or part # AKEBRK-35R
If these markings do not exist you can look at the location of the brake wire going into the brake assembly. This should be slightly to the rear of the assembly and rear of the trailer rather than being in front of or ahead of the axle.
