Tire Chain Recommendation for a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 Tradesmen Edition

Question:

What type of chains should I get for a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 Tradesmen with 4 wheel drive? Or should I get cables? I use it mainly for minor off roading in the mountains on a decently maintained road during hunting season but the snow and ice can get tricky.

When choosing a set of tire chains, you definitely want to choose something that is strong enough to not leave you stranded. Most of the tire chains that we sell are meant for On Road use only. There are a few off road tire chains available, but not for all tire sizes.

With that said, I would recommend steel chains over cables. The Pewag and Thule tire chains that we carry are made of either a manganese nickel alloy steel or a titanium alloy steel which are not only strong and durable, but also offer superior corrosion resistance over the low-carbon steel cables.

The correct tire chains must be chosen based on your tire and wheel size. The 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 Tradesman came with different size tires depending on how it was equipped. I have attached a link that will send you to the different tire size options for your truck. Once you click on your tire size, it will bring up all of the tire chains that we carry for that size tire. My recommendation would be either Pewag or Thule tire chains because of the superior construction and material used.

I have attached two FAQ articles on tire chains for you to look over as well as a link to a tire chain comparison chart so you can look at the differences between each of our tire chains. If you want to send me the size of your tires, then I would be happy to make a specific tire chain recommendation for you.
