Troubleshooting Performance Tool Foot Pump

Question:

I bought this at wal mart several month ago. Yesterday I checked the air in my bike and tried to pump it up to about 50. I felt the air coming out, but did not increase beyond 0. Its pretty straight forward but have no idea whats wrong unless its a faulty pump. please advise. thanks

The Performance Tool Foot Pump - 100 psi # PTW1638DB obviously has air coming out, so I recommend checking the connection to the valve stem which should have the black lever at 90 degrees from the stem when latched for adding air to the bike inner tube. If the seal is good and there isn't leaking at the valve stem connection or the hose, then the bike tire inner tube is the bad and needs replaced.

To test the pump I recommend covering the valve stem attachment with your thumb and holding it tight while pressing your foot on the pump. If there is pressure on your thumb, the pump is working correctly. If not, then check the hose connections. If that is all good, then the pump cylinder is bad and the pump needs replaced.
