How to Pick Up Base Plates, Tow Bars and Other Parts to Flat Tow a 2002 Chrysler Sebring

Question:

I have a 2002 Chrysler Sebring. Im somewhat confused about the base plates installation on my car. Does your part #63180 includes the base plates that are permanently attached to the car? Is the installation of the base plates something I can do myself or does it needs professional installation?

Base plates and tow bars are sold separately since the base plates are vehicle specific and the tow bars are not. The first thing you are going to want to do is consult the vehicle owners manual to determine if the Sebring can be flat towed and if so if there are any special requirements. I have included a link to the base plate main page for your Sebring. There are different base plates for different versions of the car. Once you have determined which base plates will fit you can then look at the compatible tow bars.

Installation of base plates can be an involved process and should be performed by someone with a good amount of mechanical aptitude and experience with automotive projects. If this sounds like you then you could install base plates at home. If you have any doubts I do recommend a professional installation.

There are also 3 other components you will need to flat tow the vehicle. Safety cables, like # RM-643, lighting like # RM-2120, and supplemental braking. Most states now require supplemental braking and the easiest system to set up and use is # RM-9400. This is a proportional system that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

I have included a helpful link to all of our FAQ articles on flat towing that should help.
