Is Yakima Bike Rack Compatible With a Hitch Extender

Question:

Can the Yakima Backboard 4 bike be used with the Yakima Backswing on a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with a Mopar 2in Hitch? Or would you just recommend a hitch extension?. Do you recommend Sportrack hitch lock system as a or have another recommendation? Thank You

We have a few options for you to consider, though the Yakima BackRoad is not compatible with any type of hitch extender, per Yakima, and that includes the Yakima BackSwing # Y02483. The BackSwing is also only able to accept bike racks with a 2" shank, and not one like the BackRoad which has a 1-1/4" shank and uses an adapter for a 2" hitch.

If you wanted a swing-away 4-bike rack that comes with a lock already and will fit a 2" hitch, there is the Yakima FullSwing 4-Bike Rack # Y02465.

This is a good distance from the hitch, measuring 15" to the back of the mast, which is 1-1/2" more than the BackRoad, if you were looking for added clearance. I have added a link to a couple video reviews for you to check out as well of the FullSwing.
