2 inch Hitch Recommendation for Hitch Bike Rack for 2014 Mazda 6
Question:
Ive got a top notch 2-bike rack but it requires a 2inch receiver. The only hitches I see here that dont require major install work for a 2014 Mazda 6 are 1 1/4inch receivers. I know an expander would reduce the tongue weight, but Im still under 100 lbs total so should be fine. My question is a would an expander allow the bike rack to bounce around a lot? Do I need a special pin to keep it tight? b On this particular car, would a riser adapter work, or would I have to use a straight adapter? My worry is that a straight adapter would extend the rack out on an already low car, and will drag on speed bumps and driveways that angle up from the road. Thanks for your suggestions on what to order.

Your best solution is going to be using a 2 inch hitch that fits your 2014 Mazda 6 like the EcoHitch part # 306-X7301 and not use an adapter. Adapters do reduce capacity like you mentioned, they create added movement that's hard to reduce, and they also typically reduce ground clearance due to the added length. They are an okay temporary solution but if this is a permanent solution I'd recommend the 2 inch hitch or a new bike rack to fit a 1-1/4 inch hitch directly.
