Troubleshooting Curt Echo Brake Controller Showing Electrical Overload
Question:
My new tundra has factory brake controller that doesn’t work properly and this a common Toyota problem. I had a 2012 tundra that didn’t have factory controller, installed a tekonsha P3. Worked great. So I decided to try the curt echo Bluetooth controller. Installation went fine until this: I’m getting an electrical overload warning when I press the orange manual brake button on my phone? FYI-the curt echo website states this unit is compatible with my 2020 tundra.

Since you are seeing the electrical overload only when pressing the manual override, it sounds like your vehicle wiring is supplying more than 12V power to the Echo # C51180. If this is only happening when you use the manual override, then goes back to normal use, I wouldn't be overly concerned unless you feel the brakes aren't working as that is intended to be an emergency use option only. Because your vehicle is designed for additional items for off-roading etc, so it may be that there is more power being delivered than other vehicles. You can use a meter like # PT89ZR to check your power output to the 1 o'clock power pin.
I've linked the part of the installation/operation instruction that shows that warning and the process if it stays on after hitting that override button.

Aloha. I receive this warning after applying the brakes. I can see the override circle in the background. After a few tapes, the warning goes away but will return.
