Option to Lower Nose of Trailer Using Curt A20 Hitch for Ram Rail Kits

Question:

No, I don’t. I have not used it in the year I have owned it. What is the difference between the Curt E series and the A series?

Typically you can raise the pin box in the frame brackets of the trailer to allow the nose of the trailer to sit lower. I would see if you can do that as that might be an easy fix. The Curt A16 hitch for Ram rail kits part # C16520-16021 has a height adjustment range of 14 to 18 inches so if your is measuring 20 inches that to me seems like yours isn't in the lowest position or you are using the hitch designed for industry standard rails and a rail kit adapter part # RP30154 which would add height.

We also have lift kits for tandem axle trailers that could help like the part # RR23QX.

I have a Curt A16 fifth wheel slide hitch installed in my Ram 2500 crew cab/short bed with the factory puck system. The issue I have is that the hitch head sits level with my bed sides, thereby making my camper ride high when hauling. I have the head lowered as far as it can go so that is not an option. I am looking for an option for my existing hitch or looking at a different hitch with a lower profile. The current hitch is 20inch tall from the bed to the top of the hitch head.

Do you ever have to use the slider mechanism when making tight turns?

So the good news is you can go to a fixed hitch which will sit lower and easily get the nose of your trailer down since you aren't using the slider at all. The A Series like the # C16520-16021 has much nicer head and jaw design than the E-series hitches. The E series is an entry level hitch that is priced well but has a pretty sloppy jaw design that will create a lot of movement and noise. The A series holds the king pin tightly which allows the hitch to be very quiet and smooth. It's worth the money for the upgrade for sure.
