Recommended 4 Bike Rack Compatible with 60mm Aero Rims

Question:

I believe I have narrowed down my search for a 4 bike carrier between the Yakima HoldUp EVO 4 Bike Rack 2 with 2 extension and the Thule T2 Pro XTR 2 Bike Rack with 2 bike extension. One of my bikes is a tri bike with 60mm aero rims. Are the straps on both long enough to wrap and lock these into place? The other bikes are a womens road bike, a mens mountain bike and a youth mountain bike. Of these two racks, which would you recommend?

This is a really great question.

Both the Yakima HoldUp EVO Y02479-2 and the Thule T2 Pro XTR # TH83JV with 2-bike add on # TH9036XT are designed to hold fat tires that are up to 5" wide, so the straps are going to be around 5-1/2" to 6" long. Because 60mm is a little over 2", it's going to be really similar to carrying a 5" wide tire when you take the distance to get up and over the rims, so either one of these would work well.

When it comes to choosing between the two, I generally prefer Yakima products because in my opinion, they're built for more rugged applications and are more durable in the long run when it comes to family bike racks. For that reason I do prefer the Yakima HoldUp EVO # Y02479-2. This rack does come with a locking hitch pin and locks for the bikes, so it's really got everything you'll need to get out on the road immediately.
