Upgrading 600 lb Tongue Weight Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution to 1,000 lb System
Question:
My issue is we just bought a new camper this March. Our old camper was 6000 lbs dry weight with 550 lbs tongue weight, 20 overall no issue with sway. Our new camper camper is 5900 lbs dry weight with 752 lbs tongue dry weight, 30.5 overall. Both are being pulled with same truck 2009 Silverado 1500 with an Equalizer 6k model. Im getting sway really bad on interstate going 60/65 mph in a 70 zone. Ive almost lost it twice now. Is the system I have now rated 1 for the weight of the trailer 2 for the tongue weight on the trailer. The items stored in the camper 150lbs give or take is predominantly in the front storage area evenly as well as the rest of the camper. The camper was leveled out front/back, the hitch ball was measured to same level height as camper receiver. After hook up, the W/D Bars were adjusted so that the front of the truck was brought back to level but not over adjusted. The pictures are of the system, and leveling notes taken. The L-brackets were moved back to original adjustment. I just keep going to make sure it was correct.

The issue is definitely that you have an underrated system, which is why you are experiencing sway. The Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37060ET you said you have now is rated for total tongue weights - the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your truck - of between 200 lbs and 600 lbs, with the ideal system being one in which your total tongue weight is in the middle of the system's rating.
For a trailer with a dry tongue weight of 752 lbs you'll need to upgrade, which requires you to get a new head unit and spring bars. Assuming your total tongue weight is in the range of 800 or 850 lbs - which you will want to verify with the the etrailer Tongue Weight Scale # e99044 - you will want to upgrade to the 1,000 lb Equal-i-zer system, which you can do with the following parts:
- Replacement Head for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems - 1,000 lbs TW # EQ90-02-1000
- A quantity of 2 of the: Replacement Spring Bar for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems - 1,000 lbs TW # EQ90-02-1099
This will give you the correctly rated system which will greatly minimize the sway you are experiencing.
