How To Choose Ball Mount for Class II 2 Trailer Hitch Receiver
Question:
I’m having trouble finding a ball and mount for my trailer. I have a Class II receiver that is actually 2” square. It’s rated for 3500 lbs. I want to tow a trailer with a 2-5/16” ball. All the balls I find in the right size list Class III or Class IV on them. Thanks!

In regards to trailer hitches, class I and II will have a 1-1/4" receiver tube opening and class III and IV will have a 2" receiver tube opening. I have never heard of a class II with 2" receiver tube opening but I would not get too caught up in the class ratings. If you have a 2" receiver tube opening then the Curt Heavy Duty Forged Ball Mount part # C45331 will work just fine. That said, you need to abide by the weight capacities listed on the hitch, not the ball mount.
Please note, when measuring a trailer hitch you do so at the opening, not the outside width.
