Towing Capacity and Parts Needed to Tow With 2017 Dodge Durango AWD With 5.7L Engine

Question:

Hi, I have the 2017 Durango AWD 5.7 V8. After adding just a hitch, what would the tow capacity be? It has heavy duty cooling, 230mm rear axle, 2 speed on demand transfer case, and 3.09 rear axle ratio. Would the tow capacity still be 7200 lbs? Or would I need more like a bigger alternator and rear load leveling suspension?

According to the owner's manual I looked up online, your 2017 Dodge Durango AWD with a 5.7L engine has a towing capacity of 7,200 lbs, so long as it has the factory tow package; if it does not then the towing capacity is 3,500 lbs. You'll want to keep in mind there is no way to increase the towing capacity of a vehicle as it is set by the manufacturer to ensure safety.

For the hitch I recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75713.

For trailer wiring, you will need T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118617 if you do not have the factory tow package or the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118384 if you do have the factory tow package.
