Recommendations for Carrying 3 Bikes with a 2008 Honda Odyssey

Question:

Two questions: 1 Are there other trunk mount options for a 2008 Honda Odyssey? All the other racks seem to require a hitch which Id like to avoid putting on the van. 2 Will this rack support a 20inch frame mens MTB, a 12inch toddler bike with training wheels, and/or a tag along. What other attachments should I purchase to carry this mix of equipment?

A hitch and bike rack would the best option for your vehicle. I checked with our trunk mounted bike rack manufacturers and we only have two that fit your 2008 Honda Odyssey. Both the Hollywood Over-The-Top 2 bike rack # HRF2, and the Hollywood Over-The-Top 3 bike rack # HRF2-3 are the only options for a trunk bike rack for your Odyssey.

The great thing about a hitch is that if you ever need to tow a small trailer or use a cargo carrier you would be ready to go.

For a hitch I would recommend you get a Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 75270. This is a Class III hitch that has plenty of capacity and would work well with a bike rack. I attached installation instructions and video for you to check out also. If you are concerned about the difficulty of installing this hitch check out the video to see that as long as you have basic tools you should have no problem installing this hitch.

For a 3 bike rack I would recommend you check out the Swagman 3 Bike Carrier # S63365. This rack has anti-sway cradles to help prevent the bikes from coming into contact with each other, and has a tilting feature to allow access to the cargo area of your vehicle.

For carrying womens or alternative framed bikes you may also be interested in purchasing a Swagman Easy-Out Womens and Alternative Frame Bike Adapter # 64005 to help you carry your bikes more level. What this product does is attach from the seat post of your bike to the steering stem and provides a horizontal attachment point. You should be able to attach a tag-along to the rack, but I would recommend you measure how long it is so you know if it would hang past the side of your vehicle.

The 12 inch frame bike will most likely be too small for any rack and would need to be put inside your vehicle.
