Best Brake Assembly Setup for Trailer with 4,400 lb Axles

Question:

I bought a new 2019 Coleman Lantern 31-4BH 35’ last year. Throughout the 12 month warrantee period, I have complained about very poor action gain set at 10 max for minimal brake action. The dealer has dodged me every way they could. The units’ GVW is 10,000# with a pair of 4400# axels undersized, I insist and the dealer finally just tried replacing 4 hub assemblies but only the right side brakes. The brakes on the repair order stated that they are 3500# LCI brakes. So they have tipped their cards... the axels are 1200# pounds undersized “but the brakes” are 3000# undersized. This explains A LOT!!! I can likely spend twice the money fighting this than getting the brakes up to standards!! I never go cheep on safety but the bank was broken buying the rig so your best recommendation please with consideration on cost alternatives!! There is LCI through out this unit so I’ve learned that it can’t get much cheaper!!

For a set of brake assemblies that are a fit for the 4,400 lb axles you have on your trailer the part # K23-478-479 would be the best option. You'd need to verify the bolt pattern of the mounting flanges though. See picture. These are Dexter and they are self adjusting which means you'll never have to mess with adjusting assemblies. Also make sure the trailer is using 10 gauge wire for all of the brake controller wiring like our part # 10-1-1 which we offer by the foot.
