Compatibility of 4.8-8 Trailer Tires to Replace 5.70-8 Tires On Boat Trailer
Question:
we have a small trailer that pulls a jon boat. The old tires were 5.70-8. We accidentally bought 480-8 tires for it. Can we use those smaller ones? Says the max load is 745 so we should be good there. accidentally bought the wrong tire

The Kenda K371 Bias Trailer Tire - 4.80/4.00-8 - Load Range C # AM10004 has a load rating of 745 lbs as you stated. With that load capacity meeting your criteria, the only issue is the wheels. This tire size will only fit 8x3.75 inch wheel/rims which isn't an issue because that is the same size wheel/rim the 5.70-8 tires like # AM10012 fit.
The difference is 4.7 width and 16.1 inch diameter instead of 5.9 inches wide and 18 inch diameter so you will lose 1 inch in the height of your trailer when you divide that and you'll lose 1.2 inches of width with a large portion of that being rubber meeting the road. If that is okay with your trailer it won't be an issue to use those tires instead of the original size.
