Recommended Lug Nuts for Star Mag 14 Inch Aluminum Wheel

Question:

I purchased 2 each. tire and wheels for my 2012 Trailmaster boat trailer. Unfortunately on the first trip to the lake on of the wheels came completely off! The fender is heavily damaged as a result and the tire has superficial cut half way around. Wondering how this could have happened. Do I need a longer chrome acorn lug nut? Maybe the shorter ones bottomed out? These rims will not accommodate a 4 way lug wrench! Very discouraged after paying $500 for wheels and tires!

I'm sorry that happened and glad you are okay and the trailer isn't further damaged. That is brutal. It sounds like the lug nuts were not tightened down all the way. I haven't heard of any lug nuts that bottomed out and if so you would have seen the wheels not being connected well from the beginning of your trip even at low speed. My recommendation for your wheels which look like the Karrier ST215/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire with 14" Aluminum Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range C # AM32195 are the Chrome Trailer Wheel Lug Nut - 1/2" (Each) # 12CLN or the Americana Trailer Wheel Lug Nut - Chrome Plated - 1/2"-20 # AM90049. These both have a 3/4 inch bolt size and have an overall length of 1-3/8 inches. If you want a longer option we also have the Chrome Trailer Wheel Lug Nut - 1/2" - Qty 1 # 12CLN-L which are1-3/4 inches long.

The 1/2 inch coned lug nuts should be torqued to between 90 and 120 foot lbs for safe travel.
