Low Voltage on Pollack 7-Pole Trailer Connector Right Turn Signal Pin on a 2002 Toyota Sienna

Question:

We have the Pollack 12-705 on our 2002 Toyota Sienna. It has worked just fine for two years. Now the right turn signal on the camper doesnt work and so I measured the voltage on the pins for the right turn signal with my volt meter and it is low - 5 volts. The voltage on the pin for the left turn signal is about equal to the full 12 volt power pin. What could be wrong and how do I fix it?

On the back of the connector where the wires attach check for dirt and corrosion and clean any that you find. You may need a new connection there so cut the wire, strip off some of the insulation, and reconnect after cleaning the connector. Do this for any of the wires that appear to need it.

Also check the main ground from the connector to the vehicle. It should be attached to a clean and corrosion free bare metal surface. You can also try moving the ground to a different location on the frame.

Also check the pins on the connector to make sure that they are clean and free of corrosion. Do the same for the trailer side connector.

Depending on how the 7-Pole is wired to the vehicle you may also want to check the connection at the other end of the turn signal wire to make sure it has a good connection or if it needs to be replaced.
