The Thule Passage trunk mounted 3 bike rack, part # TH911XT is a fit for your Explorer. I'd also recommend you look at the Thule OutWayy three bike model, part # TH56BV. The OutWay is the easiest to use trunk mount rack we offer. Instead of having 4-6 straps used to attach the rack tot he vehicle, the OutWay uses only 2 retractable cables. The cables make the rack very easy to install or remove. The right side cables are lockable, which secures the rack to the vehicle and the rack features an integrated cable lock to secure the bikes to the rack.
If you are planning on carrying women's bikes or bikes with sharply angled top tubes or step-through frames, using a frame adapter like part # 64005 is recommended. The adapter spans the distance between the seat post and the handle bar gooseneck, and provides a level attachment point to the bike rack so the bike has greater ground clearance and is not carried at an angle.
