Troubleshooting Error Message on Dash of Vehicle that Shows Trailer Disconnected

Question:

I have a 2006 F250, with my slide in Northern Lite camper plugged in to the 7 pin Plug, I get an intermittent Trailer disconnected message. I can clear the message but it soon returns. I don’t know why, could the trailer brake blue wire be getting voltage from the camper? Is the trailer brake wire, from the factory brake controller, what senses a disconnect? Thank you

Expert Reply:

The circuit that trailer wiring uses to detect whether a trailer is connected or not is the brake output circuit. What this is almost always caused by is corrosion on the pins of the 7-way. Take some sandpaper to the pins of the trailer connectors and most likely you'll see this issue go away.

I also attached a help article on troubleshooting trailer wiring for you to check out as well.
