Location of Brake Control Connector on 2004 Dodge Ram

Question:

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram1500 Quad cab mfg date 07/04, I have your part # 3020-P to hook up my brake control box,but I am unable to find the trailer brake port/wire harness under dash to plug 3020-P into, this truck came from factory equipped with the flat 4 pole connector on rear of truck, but I am installing the 6 or 7 pole connector for trailer brakes. Should my truck have the port under dash to plug your 3020-P connector into? I have looked under dash around emergency brake area and cant find the blue connector that your 3020-P connector will plug into,There is a blue connector there but it is more of a square connector.I have not found a video of the 04 ram brake box instal. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Your 2004 Dodge should have the connector if the 4-pole connector was factory installed, but it might be a bit tricky to locate.

Behind the emergency brake pedal on the firewall is a white junction box. The blue connector you are looking for is located above the junction box, and is sometimes actually pinned to the top of the box. You might need to give the connector a tug to get it free. The connector is sometimes hidden by the wires entering the top of the box, so sometimes you will need to hunt for it.

If you view the video I have linked to, you can see the connector location at about the :15 second mark. The connector will be blue in color, and will be rectangular in shape.

On models that had the 4-pole, the brake controller voltage output circuit will NOT be ran all the way to the rear of the vehicle, but will terminate under the hood behind the drivers side wheel well (see photo). The blue wire on the side of the connector closest to the front of the vehicle can be tapped into, and a length of 10 gauge wire ran back to the trailer connector. If you need a 12-volt accessory lead, you will need to run another length of 10 gauge wire from the connector to the positive battery terminal, via a 40 amp circuit breaker, part # 9510. If you do not feel like playing wire detective under the hood, you can sever the blue wire a few inches behind the controller and tap in there, as shown in the diagram I produced for you.

I simply cannot find the wiring harness for the brake controller under my dash. 2004 Ram 1500 SLT factory 4pin trailer wire.

Sometimes the factory plug can be pretty hidden. Try really reaching your hand up behind the dash - the plug may be taped up there to another harness. If you continue to have trouble my best advice is to take the Ram up to a local Dodge dealer to see if they can help.
