Would this RP30075 be a good fit for a 2012 Chevy 2500 HD crew short bed diesel and what rail and Installation kit would be required?

For a 16K 5th wheel hitch for your 2012 Chevy Silverado 2500 short bed, my top choice is the same hitch you referenced, # RP30075. This hitch uses the round tube slider which offers 12 inches of travel, the most of any slider, for more clearance between truck and trailer.
This hitch has been described by my contact at Reese as their workhorse. It has been around for a while and is a very popular hitch. It has a 4 -Way pivoting head and dual jaw design for a secure connection.
For an installation kit, I always recommend a custom kit, # RP50066-58, because they are easier to install, require less drilling, and take less time to put in the truck. I have linked instructions and a video showing installation for you.
