Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Weight Distribution for 720 lb TW Trailer and Dodge Durango
Question:
My husband and I are looking at RV’s and while we have the weight figured out we aren’t sure about the Tow Hitch weight. Can the tow hitch weight be altered or helped in anyway? The trailer we are looking at is front heavy and has a tow hitch weight of 720 pounds. We really love this trailer and it’s taken us awhile to find one we liked. Any help or insight would help greatly!Tow hitch weight on Dodge Durango Citadel with a V8

The tow hitch weight (trailer tongue weight) is a big deal and if you use a hitch receiver like the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C13182 along with a weight distribution hitch, you will be right on the edge of capacity at 750 lbs and that is for total tongue weight which is your fully loaded trailer and any cargo behind the rear axle of your Durango.
Instead, I recommend the Draw-Tite # 75713 because it is rated for 900 lbs total tongue weight. One just sits lower and is easier to install than the other. Then for your weight distribution system I recommend getting the Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion Bar - 12,000 lbs GTW, 1,200 lbs TW # RP66084 which is rated for total tongue weight between 600 and 1200 lbs and has the best sway control in my opinion. You also will need hitch ball # 19286. I've attached a video and help article to assist.
