Before installing base plate mounting brackets on your 1990 Jeep Wrangler or your 2006 Kia Sorento, you will want to check the vehicles owners manuals to determine if the they can be flat towed and if there are any special requirements.
For your 1990 Jeep Wrangler, we have two custom fit Roadmaster base plate kits, # 1409-1 and # 1409-3. The only difference between the two base plate kits is that # 1409-3 has a crossmember and # 1409-1 does not. They will both operate the same. These base plate kits require your Jeep to have the factory u-channel bumper.
If the Falcon 5250 tow bar that you currently have is the same as the Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar for Blue Ox Base Plates, # RM-525, then you will need a few additional parts to make this tow bar compatible with the Roadmaster base plates. You can attach the Quick Disconnects, # RM-201, to the base plates and use the Roadmaster base plate to Blue Ox tow bar adapter, # RM-033.
For your 2006 Kia Sorento, we have a Roadmaster Base Plate Kit, # 2108-1, and the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit, # BX2707. If you plan on converting your tow bar so that it is compatible with Roadmaster base plates, then you may find it easier to install the Roadmaster base plate kit so you can easily change between vehicles. If you plan on using the Roadmaster base plate to Blue Ox tow bar adapter, # RM-033, then you may want to install the Blue Ox base plate kit so you do not have to attach the adapter to each vehicle.
I have attached a few articles on flat towing for you to check out. Some additional items that you will need to complete your flat towing set up are a lighting kit, safety cables, # RM-643, and a supplemental braking system. I have attached an article on the different lighting kits that are used for flat towing. You may be interested in the Roadmaster Magnetic Light Kit, # RM-2120, so you can use one light kit for both vehicles.
Most states now require the use of a braking system. The easiest braking system to set up and use is the Roadmaster Even Brake Proportional Braking System, # RM-9400.
