Parts Needed to Control Trailer Disc Brakes on 2015 Acura MDX
Question:
Hello, I am looking to purchase a boat. it has a duel axle trailer and comes with a 7 way plug and has disc brakes. If i install just this kit on my 2015 acura MDX. will the trailer brakes work by just plugging in the 7 way plug into this part? or will i need something else to make the trailer brakes work. Thank you

In order to control the brakes on your trailer, you will need a brake controller. Since you're going to be installing the Tekonsha # 118289 on your 2015 Acura MDX, you don't already have the towing package in place, which would mean that you'd need to hard-wire most brake controllers in.
Because of this, I recommend using a wireless brake controller like the Curt Echo # C51180, which won't require any wiring of the controller into the cab of the vehicle since it simply plugs into the # 118289 and then allows your trailer's 7 way to plug into it. This controller is controlled by your smartphone (Android 4.4 or newer OS/ iOS 8.0 or newer required) and provides you with an easy to use and install option to control the disc brakes on your trailer.
I've linked a review/installation video of the Curt Echo on a similar Acura MDX that I recommend having a look at, as well.
