Will Thule Motion XT XXL Box fit 2012 Honda Odyssey with Factory Crossbars and Allow Hatch to Open

Question:

I just had the Honda Dealdership install the factory roof rails and crossbars on my 2012 Honda Odyssey EX-L. With 4 kids we have run out of room when we take long trips and I want to get the largest cargo box possible. I really like the Thule Motion XT XXL 22 cubic feet but wanted to confirm it will fit and still allow me to open the back hatch. I have heard the factory crossbars are fixed and do not adjust like aftermarket parts and wanted to be sure before I order.

Most likely the Thule Motion XT XXL part # TH629906 will allow your rear hatch to open but you need to take one quick measurement. Measure from the center of the front crossbar back to the rear hatch seam of the van. If that distance is more than 55 inches this box will allow you open the rear hatch.

The 18 cubic foot version of this box # TH629806 instead requires at least 51-1/4 inches instead. If you have something different let me know and we can come up with your best solution.
